Grading System:

There are PDI's (Potential Driving Instructors) and ADI's (Approved Driving Instructors). PDI's are trainee driving instructors and can only teach for a maximum of 6 months, while attempting to qualify to ADI level. Once qualified an ADI will be awarded a grade according to their ability to teach. The grades range from 4-6, 6 being the highest award. A driving instructor is only "Approved" if they are grade 4 or above. Their licence should be displayed on the dash-board of their vehicle on the passenger side. For your own safety, PLEASE CHECK. The licence will either state Potential Driving Instructor or Approved Driving Instructor including their instructor number and photo ID. To check their grade, you will need to telephone the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA). Seems like a lot of research, however ask yourself how important is it for you to not only pass your driving test, but be able to drive safely for the rest of your life.

Pass Rates:

mydrivinginstructor.com's pass rate is currently 100%. The average pass rate in Northern Ireland is only 46.9% (latest figures 1st Jan-31st March 2009). Although pass rates are not a guarantee to driving safely for life, they continue to be one of the main reasons for choosing a driving instructor. Pupils are often put in for their driving test too early. Some may pass with luck, or manage to get an "easy" driving test route. Passing first time should not, however, be your number 1 goal, but an added bonus. Experience in "good" driving habits is key. You may have the experience, but how much of that experience is "bad"? Please remember you only show about 40mins worth of driving habits to the driving test examiner. You will, of course, cover a lot of situations noted in the highway code but, in less than an hour, how could you possibly cover all potential hazards ever documented? Focus your attention on what is important. For many, this will be your first venture into independence. So, please don't rush into this.

Driving Instructor's Character:

When you first meet your driving instructor, ask yourself "Are they friendly?" "Do they seem patient?" How knowledgable are they?" "Can they communicate well?" "Will it be fun?" Try about 3 driving instructors, who sound good on paper. Book an hour with each. You'll soon know who you'd rather spend time with.

Extras:

mydrivinginstructor.com's driving lesson prices include notes and diagrams adapted personally for your individual needs (should you wish). People tend to forget what they've achieved from week to week. Notes and diagrams can help achieve your goal quickly, if you do your homework in between your driving lessons. Not all driving schools in Belfast will offer this service. So, you might want to check before you commit.

One2One tuition:

mydrivinginstructor.com's driving lessons are on a One2One basis. Some driving schools in Belfast and throughout the UK teach multiple pupils at any given time. This can interfere with a persons progress, especially if one of you is less confident than the other.

Pass Plus:

This is an advantage for lowering car insurance after you pass the practical driving test. No exams are needed to pass this. However, you need to show a continued standard of competence when driving, to be awarded a certificate at the end. Includes Motorway driving. Not all driving instructors are registered. Please check before you commit.
